Viewing the Earth’s Rotation from Space
Be sure to see this NASA video in context here: https://grade8science.com/1-1-2-what-do-we-mean-when-we-say-earth-is-a-planet/
This NASA video (original source: https://svs.gsfc.nasa.gov/30082) shows the rotating Earth as you might see it in space, but with the rotation sped up. We see the dividing line between daylight and darkness near the left, so we are mostly looking at Earth’s night side, lit up by the lights of human civilization. Worth thinking about: If alien beings could see this view, the night lights would immediately tell them that our planet is home to a life and a civilization.

The REAL Movement of Earth Through the Galaxy
In this documentary, we'll be discussing the real Movement of Earth through the Galaxy, based off of the helical model. This model is much more accurate than the model currently used and provides a more clear understanding of the movement of the Earth.
This video is a great way to learn more about the helical model and understand how it affects our understanding of the Movement of Earth. We'll be discussing the model in detail and providing examples to help you understand it better. So if you're interested in learning more about the Movement of Earth, watch this video!

In space, the Earth moves in different ways. One way the Earth moves is by spinning on its axis. An axis is an imaginary line that runs through the Earth’s center. This spinning movement on its axis is called a rotation.
As it rotates, part of the Earth is facing the sun. This part of the Earth it lit up and experiences daytime. At the same time, the opposite side of the Earth is facing away from the sun. This part of the Earth is in darkness and it is nighttime.
It takes the Earth 24 hours to complete one rotation. The repeating rotation of the Earth is why we experience the daily pattern of day and night.
Hello, primary students! Have you ever wondered why we have day and night? Let me explain it to you.
Our planet Earth spins on an imaginary line called an axis. It's kind of like a spinning top, but instead of just wobbling, it spins around completely. This spinning takes 24 hours to complete, which means that in one day, Earth completes one full rotation.
Now, here's the fun part - when one side of Earth is facing towards the sun, that side experiences daylight. And when the other side of Earth is facing away from the sun, that side experiences night time. So, as the Earth rotates, different parts of the planet are exposed to the sun's light, while other parts are in the shadows, creating day and night.
Isn't that cool? It means that when we're sleeping and it's dark outside, other parts of the world are enjoying bright sunshine and having lots of fun. And when we're having our daytime activities, other parts of the world are getting ready to go to bed.
So now you know why we experience day and night on Earth!
